Generators
Superior Electric Company, Inc.
An automatic standby generator is a back up electrical system that operates when
your electrical service is disrupted, regardless of whether you are home or away.
Within seconds of an outage, it can automatically supply power directly to your
home's electrical panel. Once utility power returns, the generator will shut itself off.  It
operates on natural gas or liquid propane gas and sits outside similar to a central air
conditioning unit.
During a utility power outage, automatic standby generators provide advantages over
a portable generator:
The best way to determine your needs when it comes to selecting a generator is to
envision your home without power. Some outages may be short only lasting a few
hours, while others could last for days or weeks. In either case, imagine what you
would need to keep you and your family comfortable.

Complete Coverage – Easily cover every circuit in your home by choosing a larger
kW unit and paring it with the proper transfer switch to provide whole house
coverage.  No circuit is ever left uncovered, so every appliance is available every
minute.

Managed Coverage – You can get more coverage with less generator by pairing a
smaller generator with a load sensing switch option.  This creates a managed
power solution where non-essential circuits are shut off as the generator
approaches maximum capacity.  Those circuits are then turned back on when
essential circuits are no longer drawing power.  In this setup, all circuits can receive
power but at different times.

Essential Circuit Coverage – In this setup your generator is paired with a transfer
switch containing a predetermined number of circuits based on the generator’s kW
power rating.  Each circuit is directly connected to a matched circuit on the home’s
main circuit breaker panel, providing electricity only to those specific appliances or
areas of the home.
AUTOMATIC STANDBY GENERATORS
Properly installed, a permanent standby generator setup is a safer way to
provide backup power to a home when compared to portable
generators.  Being placed outside, your home is protected from deadly
carbon monoxide poisoning that can be a much greater risk with portable
generators.

Standby generators can start automatically within seconds of a power
outage, eliminating the potential down time resulting from having to deal
with setting up a  portable generator  No need to run extension cords
through your home..

Running on the home’s natural gas or LP fuel supply, it is less expensive
to run than gasoline or diesel and does not need to be refilled as often.

Standby generators can provide protection 24/7, whether you’re home or
away, and they turn themselves off when utility power returns, so the
need to monitor the unit during an outage is .

The generators we install are equipped with overload protection. In the
rare event of an overload, the generator’s circuit breaker will trip,
disconnecting the unit from the load. Simply correct the overload and
reset the breaker in the generator
